Inexpensive Ways to Work Out at Home

When you work at home, there’s a very strong chance that you will end up living a sedentary lifestyle. You might feel like you constantly have to work and because of this, don’t take the time to go to the gym. It’s understandable.
Plus, if you’re on a budget, (which you should be careful with your money) there might not be room to buy a gym membership.
The problem is that you really do need to put some sort of physical activity in your life. Being active can help prevent a lot of health issues. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, you should be doing at least two and a half hours of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise per week. In addition, you should throw in two days of strength training exercise each week.
To combat the hassle of having to go to the gym, you can begin by doing exercises at home. Plus, there are a decent number of ways that are inexpensive and don’t necessitate buying a ton of equipment.

Running

Running is the original inexpensive home work out. You literally only need a pair of sneakers, shorts, and a t-shirt to get started. If you want to spice it up, you can grab your headphones and download a few songs or podcasts to listen to when you go out.
Running Is one of the most effective ways of building cardiovascular fitness and can help you get in very good shape. Overtime, it can even become an activity that you enjoy doing.

Bodyweight Exercises

As far as strengthening activities go, bodyweight exercises are very effective and easy to do. These are the typical exercises that you probably had to do in gym class: push ups, crunches, and squats.
These types of workouts can be done basically anywhere, and each work a different muscle group.
There are a variety of other workouts that you could learn to do as well. If you purchase a pull up bar (about $20), you can add in pull ups and a few variations of the previously mentioned exercises.

Dumbbell Sets

A recent investment I made was to get an adjustable dumbbell set. Now, some of these can set you back a few hundred dollars. However, I was able to pick up one for $30 from Walmart. It’s definitely not as fancy as the others, but works pretty well. (Note: This isn’t an affiliate link, I just think it’s a good deal.)
Because of these, I can add in traditional free weight workouts. This helps mix up my workouts and hit up different muscle groups.

YouTube Videos

Fitness videos have existed for decades now. You can purchases DVDs for almost any workout program. But, there’s another option: YouTube.
YouTube creators have made tons of fitness videos that are available for free. Some popular options include yoga and Pilates. I’ve started watching Yoga with Adriene to get started at yoga. She, as well as most creators, offer beginner videos for those of us just starting out.

There are quite a few options to get a good work out at home. Experiment a little to decide what best fits your lifestyle and tastes. Just be sure to know your limits and check with your doctor if needed.
