Tips for Working Alone as an Entrepreneur

Working alone can sometimes be challenging. You are not around others and lack the constant social interactions that make up the usual workplace. This can be hard to deal with sometimes. Entrepreneurs who work by themselves may face loneliness and more stress than those who don’t.

However, by following some of these tips, you can have a better experience working alone.

Network Online

Building relationships online can help you to feel more connected, even if you are not physically with the people you are talking with. Any kind of relationship, even a virtual one, will allow you to have people to discuss your business with.

Some places where you might network online include: blogs, social media (Facebook groups, Reddit), or slack.

Network In Person

Another option is to network in person. There are a decent number of ways to find places to network. We discussed some of them in my post about networking for entrepreneurs.

Networking in person can be helpful in a different way than networking online. It is more social, being a face to face interaction. You may even want to join a local networking or meetup group to get to know people on a more regular basis.

Coworking Spaces

Coworking spaces are growing in popularity lately. These are office-like spaces where a person can just go to work. They may have desks, couches, and kitchens. It’s almost like renting a membership to an office space. Because it is membership-based, coworking spaces also allow you to have “coworkers.”

An cheaper alternative to coworking spaces is simply to go to a coffee shop. You’ll miss out on having the same people always there. However, simply working in a place other than your own house may allow you to focus more, and gain some relationships.

Find a Mentor

Having a mentor allows you to have someone to learn from in regards to your business. However, a mentor can also allow you to benefit while working alone. It also allows you to have someone to discuss business issues with that you may not be able to with anyone else.

Set Aside Time for Friends & Family

While working alone, you should be sure to set aside time to spend with your family and friends. Being busy with your business can sometimes lead you to neglect social time. However, by spending time with people you enjoy, you can recharge and be more happy. This will allow you to combat the stress and loneliness that can sometimes occur when you work alone.

By following these tips, you can have a healthier, happier time while working alone as an entrepreneur.
